Posted by DevanJedi in Site News on November 24th, 2008

We now have a Facebook page and a Twitter feed. The Facebook page is just a gathering place for Star Wars (and GFA) fans. The twitter feed will have short bursts of Star Wars news, facts and thoughts. More coming soon, as we gear up for the 10th anniversary of GalaxyFarAway.com next month.

(Note: We’ve always had an RSS feed if you want to follow GFA in your favorite feed reader.)

On BBC Tonight

Posted by DevanJedi in Films, Classic Trilogy, Fandom, Site News on May 24th, 2007

UPDATE: They did use a little bit of what I said- in the first minute or so of the program. You can listen here

I might be on BBC World Service today on a program called “The World” The World Today . They’re doing a special on 30 years of Star Wars and I just spoke with a producer for the show. They’ve recorded my comments, but I’m not sure if they will use them. I was speaking quite naturally until they said “We’re recording now” at which point I became nervous and incoherent!

Of course, if they don’t use anything I said, they just gained a slightly bigger audience for the price of an international phone call.

UPDATE: My mistake, I called the show “The World” instead of “The World Today”, in case anyone is paying attention.

What’s Next for Star Wars on the Internet?

Posted by DevanJedi in Site News on March 28th, 2006

Star Wars on the internet has been calm, lately. There is no news, nothing to report and all content is old. The community that was once vibrant- almost agressive- is has now been relegated to the outer rim of the galaxy.

We want to change that here at GalaxyFarAway.com. It will be hard and until the television show is in full swing, there will be nothing to root for. But we are Star Wars fans- we lived from 1983 to 1996 with nothing but a growing expanded universe and our fandom.

So what next? I want to bring back new content to the web site and revitalize Star Wars on the internet, but I cannot do it alone. I am going to get in touch with all the old gang who made this site what it was, and what the internet used to mean for Star Wars, and see what we can come up with. I also want all the suggestions I can get for new content- novel stuff- humor, multimedia, mobile content, interactivity; you name it, we want to do it here. Let me know what you miss most from the old days of Star Wars on the internet (or new stuff that never was) in the comments below.

Happy 7th Birthday

Posted by DevanJedi in Site News on December 18th, 2005

GalaxyFarAway.com is 7 years old this week. Back in 1998 I set it up on a Tripod.com location that is still active; I used to call it TGFFA for The Galaxy Far, Far Away and it used to look something like this. In the summer of 1999, the summer of Episode I, I bought this domain name and set up the site around it. I gained a staff most of whom are no longer in touch. I also set up Pod Race Arena as a Star Wars magazine- a GFA spin-off. On the first birthday of GFA, we had this funky, fake, bizarre Star Wars party. Or at least we said we did!

Over the years, the amount of time I could afford to spend here has diminished, but barring some catastrophic event, the site and its content shall remain. And I shall be back with updates as often as I can. Since the Star Wars universe has shrunk (both online and off), there are fewer places to get your fix. I promise GalaxyFarAway.com will always be one of them. Thanks for visiting.

Welcome to the New GalaxyFarAway.com

Posted by DevanJedi in Site News on May 13th, 2005

First up, I’m sorry. I have been absent from the site for 3 years now and I’m sorry. Three years can cause a lot of site rot (and it has), so bear with the broken parts and rough edges as I get the web site on its feet again.

While you wait, most of the things on the web site should work. Click around. The image gallery is always fun; as are our old articles on the soon to be revived fan magazine Pod Race Arena. Check out some fine book reviews or maybe something else. In any case, enjoy yourself until we return to regularly scheduled broadcast—kw=prequels star wars—>
