In addition to regular stormtroopers the Empire maintains a number of units specialized for various environments and mission profiles. Among these units are snowtroopers, or cold-assault troopers, who wear lighter armor equipped with powerful heating and personal environment control units, terrain-grip boots and face-shielding breathing masks.

Scout troopers, very lightly armored for mobility, are usually assigned to Imperial garrisons. They use speeder bikes to patrol perimeters, perform reconnaissance missions and scout enemy locations.

The standard stormtrooper suit of body armor can adapt to all but the most extreme climatic conditions, and various gear accessories and backpacks are issued to support operations in environments such as open sand or jungle. Field units may wear shoulder pauldrons as high-visibility rank indicators.

The Royal Guard report only to Palpatine, and a handful are always with him. They are fighters, assassins and protectors, according to the Emperor’s wishes. Their main weapons include 2-meter force pikes that are almost as lethal as the heavy blaster pistols concealed beneath their robes.

They began to appear as part of Palpatine’s personal security force after as he rose in power from Chancellor to Emperor.

Although smaller than AT-ATs at about 8.6 meters tall, they are significantly faster: on flat terrain they can move along at a 90-kilometer-an-hour clip. The two-legged walker has a small but highly maneuverable armored command pod that houses a pilot and a gunner. Each leg has a sharp claw that can slice through natural or man-made obstacles.
With just two legs and a gyro balance system that is highly susceptible to damage, the AT-ST is more prone to tipping over than the AT-AT. But its flexibility and fire power make it a strong addition to the battlefield.

Scout walkers are often used to lay down a blanket of covering fire for Imperial ground troops and for defending the flanks and somewhat vulnerable underbelly of AT-ATs. Its two-man crew enters and exits through a hatch atop the armor-plated command cabin.

More than 15 meters tall and 20 meters long, it can stride across a flat battlefield at up to 60 kilometers an hour and lob heavy laser fire from the cannons mounted beneath its “chin” while providing supporting fire from two medium blasters on each side of its head.

Its armored body can offload 40 heavily armed troopers and five speeder bikes. Their thick plating shields them from all but the heaviest of artillery fire. Their heads can rotate, providing the commanding officer, pilot and gunner a sweeping view of any battlefield from the command deck.

AT-ATs are usually among the first vehicles to enter a combat zone. Their heavy, crushing feet can cause the ground to shake before they even appear, frightening and demoralizing the enemy. They are the main weapon that General Veers employs during the Imperial assault on Hoth.

Using a combination of momentum and repulsor effects, droidekas unfurl in a matter of seconds from wheel form into standing position, ready to attack. The dramatic transformation recalls the attack pattern of a deadly adult Colicoid, and can take unwary opponents by surprise-as droids’ manufacturers intended.

For compact storage and optimum travel speed, droidekas retract into the shape of a wheel. Using pulsed internal micro-repulsors in sequence, they roll themselves into battle, opening at the last minute into the their combat form. In transit, the wheel configuration presents a smaller and faster target to enemy gunfire.

When a droideka is ready to begin an assault, it quickly unfolds and stands up on three legs. Its pneumatic arms flex open and its eerie head rises with its enemy-finding sensors ablaze. Made only for combat and specialized for the single purpose of destruction, the droideka has no need of hands. Instead, powerful twin blaster are built onto its arms. Unlike the lightly built battle droids, every part of the droideka is heavy alloy or armor plate, making the machine a fearsome specter that cuts down soldiers by the dozen with ease.

The standard Imperial sidearm is the BlasTech E-11 blaster rifle. This weapon has a three-position stock which allows for optimum bracing during use. Entrenched field troopers typically lock the stock in its fully open position for protracted firing on a constant target point. In full assault or unpredictable situations where agility is key, the stock is kept folded in its fully closed position, as seen here for the escort of a Rebel prisoner.

Imperial blasters are substantially more powerful than most civilian sidearms and can often penetrate the combat armor worn by stormtroopers. Captured weapons in the hands of Rebel elements can lend significant power to the opposition.

Fortuna became one of the biggest exporters of the addictive chemical ryll. When clan leaders learned of this they ordered for his death. Fortuna was able to allude them, but swore to get revenge. With time, though, the clans adapted to the point where not only ryll trade was allowed but so was slavery.

Soon Fortuna received an interesting offer from gang lord, Jabba the Hutt. The Hutt wanted the Twi’lek to enter into a glitterstem smuggling trade, and he proposed that Fortuna work as his production and transport agent. Jabba’s people would handle distribution but it was up to Bib Fortuna to bring in the spice.

Fortuna knew that if he stayed at that job for too long he’d be dead soon so requested a promotion, so to speak. The Hutt agreed and made the Twi’lek one of his lieutenants.

Fortuna later got revenge on his homeworld, when he went in with a battalion of attacking slave ships. When the carnage was complete 7 cities had been destroyed and their citizens taken captive. Jabba was impressed with Fortuna’s organizational skills and tactfulness. Fortuna soon became part of the “inner circle”. The Twi’lek had plans from then on to take the job as Jabba’s majordomo.

His only competition came from a Corellian smuggler (no not that one!) named Bidlo Kwerve. Fortuna outsmarted his opponent when the two of them presented Jabba the Rancor. While the Twi’lek was calm, Kwerve’s aggression made him the Rancor’s first snack.

From then on Fortuna was with Jabba everywhere from Pod-Races on Tatooine to the Throne room on Nal Hutta. The Twi’lek was Jabba’s key advisor and could often be seen whispering through his sharp teeth into the Hutt’s ear.

One a trip back to Ryloth, Fortuna stumbled upon a dancing girl named Oola. She was a wonderful dancer and the perfect gift for Jabba the Hutt. Fortuna kidnapped her and took her and later presented her to the crime lord. Oola was adamant but did one dance. When the Hutt pressed her for an encore she refused, resulting in her untimely death by Rancor.

That marked the beginning of the end for Bib Fortuna’s power. Soon after that two droids were sent to the palace, followed by a woman dressed as Boussh, who came to free Captain Solo. Soon after a man, claiming he was a Jedi knight tricked Fortuna into letting him see Jabba. After the Jedi killed the Rancor, Jabba planned to kill him, Solo and Chewbacca by throwing them in the Pit of Carkoon. When Skywalker launched an escape, Fortuna ran to his private skiff.

Bib Fortuna was never seen again.

Worm-like creatures growing as large as 900 meters, space slugs inhabit deep caverns on larger asteroids near the planet Hoth. It has long been rumored that a space pirate planted the huge slugs as guardians for his hidden treasure and bases.
The slugs are hardy, existing on virtually no atmosphere. Silicon-based life-forms, they live for long periods by breaking down rock and subsisting on mineral content.

Space slugs are plagued by parasites known as mynocks, which they sometimes feed on. Space slug flesh has a number of commercial uses. The creatures reproduce through fission, splitting into two separate beings.

Easily domesticated reptilian creatures insulated with gray-white fur, Tauntauns are sometimes called “snow lizards.” Wild tauntauns roam the frozen wastes of the ice planet Hoth, where they graze on lichen. Although initially ornery, the spitting tauntaun can be tamed and ridden. The animals are used as mounts and pack animals by members of the Rebel Alliance when they venture out from Echo Base on Hoth.

While their thick fur protects tauntauns from extreme temperatures, they can’t survive Hoth’s brutal nights and must seek shelter. During the day, several species of tauntaun herds can be seen running across the plains of ice and snow, with larger populations in the area of equatorial tundra.

A nomadic and often violent species, the Sand People of the planet Tatooine are as fierce and savage as their harsh desert environment. Also known as Tusken Raiders, even their appearance – born of necessity – lends them an air of menace. Wrapped in gauzy robes and strips of cloth from head to foot, their faces are concealed with breathing masks and goggles to protect their eyes. The frightening visage of a bandit Tusken Raider can terrorize as easily as their weapons.

The Sand People are easily intoxicated by sugar water and are most dangerous during their adolescent years, when they must survive rigorous rites of passage—such as hunting krayt dragons—to become adults. Since there is no written Tusken language, the storyteller-historian is the most respected member of Tusken communities. Many Tusken Raider clans of 20 to 30 individuals return annually to their traditional encampments in the Needles, a section of the Jundland Wastes, to wait out the dangerous sandstorm season.

The Sand People have an almost symbiotic relationship with their bantha mounts. A member who has lost his bantha is considered incomplete, and an outcast among his people. Likewise, when a Raider dies, his mount engages in a usually suicidal frenzy and is turned loose in the desert to survive or die on its own.

Tuskens live in an uneasy, and frequently shattered, peace with Tatooine moisture farmers. They attack settlements from time to time, using their traditional weapon, the gaderffii (or “gaffi”) stick, a kind of double-edged ax, or older projectile rifles. Targets of opportunity also include individuals or small parties roaming the desert, such as Jawa scavenging parties.
